BEIJING – Secretary of the Treasury Janet L. Yellen today met with Premier Li Qiang of the People’s Republic of China. The meeting was frank and productive and builds on progress made by President Biden and President Xi at the Woodside Summit last November to deepen bilateral discussions. The Secretary provided her views on the shared objective of a healthy economic relationship that provides a level playing field for workers and businesses in both the U.S. and China. The Secretary also raised issues of concern, including industrial overcapacity in China and the impact that could have on American workers and firms. She also emphasized the importance of working together on global challenges, including debt distress in low-income and emerging economies.
